Hi all, I am moving from Atlanta to Scottsdale, AZ at the end of Aug and I would like some recommendations on moving companies? I don't know where to start. I have a 2 bedroom apartment, lots of furniture and a car to move, any suggestions? I am not going to drive my car or stuff and would be paying to have it all moved for me. This is a personal move, so I want to find someone cheap and reliable, but willing to pay for higher quality.

I am looking for a moving company that will move both my household items AND my car.

Any ideas on how long it would take to get my stuff there? I plan on flying there and will just stay in my apartment waiting for my stuff to arrive. I may have to buy an inflatable bed! I hope it doesn't take more than 5 - 6 days???

If you don't mind me asking, was it difficult for you finding employment with you being an out-of-state candidate and all. As Im trying to relocate to Phoenix, as well.

Hi Westcoastbabe, I have a job where I work from home so I can live anywhere as long as I work between the hours of 9am - 6pm EST since all my work is done remotely!

Pretty envious of you Blue1Roses right now..I currently have my home on the market waiting to sell.... I work for one of the major banks in the US....so hopefully could transfer...But keeping options open as well, as Phx might offer other opportunities that could offer career advancement. You're gonna absolutely love Scottsdale!!!!So so different than Atlanta.

Your objectives may get in the way of your expectations.

The end of August is normally the third busiest month in the movin' business.

Moving your vehicle in the same truck along with your household goods will reduce the transit time, but also significantly increase your final cost.

Reputable industry sales people will suggest that you have a third party car carrier transport your auto, while they handle your household goods move. Most movers already have established relationships with reliable auto transport companies so that can help you complete these arrangements.

This is the smartest way to handle your budget expectations but it also means that it could take longer for your 'stuff' to be delivered. Perhaps as long as two weeks depending on the actual amount you have to move.

Get three in-home estimates from at least three reputable movers in the Atlanta market. Be careful because there are a number of scammers operating in Georgia. The Georgia Public Service Commission offers a Household Goods Consumer Service Report Card to consumers.

A.C. White is one of the companies in Atlanta that you might to email for an estimate. They represent both United Van Lines and Mayflower Transit, two the largest national household goods carriers.

You can also check a carrier's credentials at the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's ProtectYourMove.gov website at https://www.protectyourmove.gov/

We moved from ATL to PA and used Berger Allied. We could not have had a better experience..from the lady in the office to the driver. Actually the driver went above and beyond what he was contracted to do. They aren't cheap..but none of the good ones are.

You might want to figure out if it's worth it to move all that furniture...if the move costs you $5k+, it might be more practical to take that $5k and buy all new furniture. You might end up liking the Southwest style of furnitue/design. Funiture in the west is typically very casual. The auto will probably cost about $1k.

A large POD will fit a lot of furniture in it. I rented a U-Pack and they are small. Held 45 small boxes, a desk, grandfather clock, deacon's bench and small tables. That was it. If I had furniture to move, a good amt. of it, I'd rent a POD. The boxes were all personal items, clothes, tools (some), and some other stuff--stuff I could not give away, necessity stuff.
I was dissapointed the U-Pack was small and I thought fairly expensive, 2700.00 from AZ to NY. 2nd one would have cost another 700.00 and would not fit mattresses, etc. You need a large POD for that stuff.
