I paid $75/hr before. I found they did no better job than $20/hr movers. I regretted it when they were slow and charged me even double the quoted price. Find some friends and pay them. I should have done that the first time. Or put an ad out on craigslist, $20/hr moving help needed. Plenty of people looking for work.

I was just quoted $400 total for two hours. I guess that's too much, huh?

You should never, never, NEVER shop for movers based on the lowest price. You just might get what you're willing to pay for.
Definitely. My favorite small claims court judge has a saying: "The cheap comes out expensive," which is a great variation of "pennywise and pound foolish." I look for the best price on things that aren't important, but when it comes to people moving my possessions, I'm looking for people who are licensed, bonded, and insured, and those aren't cheap Craigslist movers who might do God knows what to a tiny woman like me once they get me alone in my new house, which they know the address to by definition of their job duties

Not only that, but they also know exactly what stuff you just brought into the house, electronics, large screen tv, etc. just in case they decide they would like it next month...
