I'm interested in a house in town that's fantastic, the only "issue" is it's about 200 meters from a methadone clinic. This is in a modest, low crime, middle class, established neighbourhood. If any of you have, did you notice any increase in property crime or anything?
I don't have an issue with the patients. Generally, they are people seeking help in order to "re-join" society as productive members. But there are others who frequently relaps, and those are the ones that kind of concern me. Did they go to the clinic, only to find it closed for the day and are getting the "itch" without a treatment that day? Are they going to bust into my house/car to get money or something to trade for their heroin/whatnot?
So...yeah. I know this was probably worded poorly, but I think you know what I'm getting at here.
Like I said, I don't have a problem with it, provided that 9 times out of 10, things are fine.
Honestly , I wouldn't be too concerned about it if what you mentioned about the town is true with the low crime statistics . Have you spoke to any of the residents living in the area ?
Nah...I considered it, but then thought it would be a little wierd lol. I probably should though, if I want an accurate idea of what's happening though.
I worked beside a methadone clinic in Toronto a few years ago. Security advised all women not to walk to their car after dark without an escort due to the addicts hanging around it and the street kid "outreach center" next door. Dirty needles were often left lying in the parking lot where people walked to their cars as well. I don't know if you have kids or not, but I wouldn't want mine anywhere close to a methadone clinic or junkie den. They are only one found needle away from being stuck with someone elses problem (specifically AIDS, hepititis and whatever other diseases you can catch from that kind of disgusting, degenerate lifestyle).
I mean seriously... IV drug users are some of the worst kinds of people to be around, and have a far greater chance of relapse than they do recovery. Why the hell would you want to live anywhere close to a place where they are known to congregate?
My issue would be the time most folks come for the methadone, usually at 5 or 6 am. Before going to work. What are the hours of this clinic? Most folks on methadone are low key, just trying to get their lives back on track, and seek to stay out of trouble. This is better than living by a halfway house.
Like I said, I don't have a problem with it, provided that 9 times out of 10, things are fine.
Unfortunately, you have zero control over the situation.
I think the question here is whether the 1 in 10 chance of something not being fine is worth it.
