My husband will be leaving late December "07" for a 365 remote to the desert. My husbands follow-on assignment will be at Elmendorf. AFB, Alaska. My husband would like me and the kids to move to WA State so we're closer to my family while's he gone. Once he get's back to the states in the spring of 2009. My husband would then move us to our follow on at Elmendorf. After researching traveling to AK during the winter. I know moving to Alaska in the winter can be done. However; if we decide to move back to WA for the year my husband is oversea's.....would the Air Force move us to WA state and then move us agian to Elmendorf in the spring of 2009?
If we choose to live in WA state for the year hubby is away, would we get WA State BAH or Alaska's?
Thank you.....any help would be greatly appreciated!

If the AF is anything like the Army, the AF is only going to pay for your move from base to base. Where you go during deployment is on your own dime & time. You would keep BAH for where you are presently stationed unless you move to the new base prior to your husband's return (though your husband would need orders authorizing the move). If you move to Alaska prior to his deployment, you can live in WA state while he is gone & will receive Alaska BAH.

Good luck. My husband was deployed to NW Baghdad for a year & returned Dec. 06.
