I haven't driven I10 but I have driven long stretches of I80, I70 and I40. They all get boring after a while.

As to speed traps .... cruise control is your friend. I make a point of staying within 3 or 4 mph of the speed limit. If a cop stops you at that speed then they are suspicious for other reasons (e.g. they are looking for drugs).

Easiest, and most "direct" route is the 10 freeway. Just get on in Florida, and get off in Los Angeles. Looks like almost any freeway from southern Florida bumps into the 10 freeway. Also, the 10 freeway is the best for avoiding most winter weather.

As far as stops, really depends on what distance you are going each day. And do you want to stop at any places in-between to visit. If just going through, lots of good hotels just off the freeway all along the route.

If you're worried about the southern states, I would stop at Panama City and you can drive the next day to Houston during daylight. There is a lot of truck traffic from California to Texas. I didn't experience any speed traps. Keep the main route short. Otherwise, you'll be too tired to make time for detours like Las Vegas.

I have driven I-10 a number of times, never heard any of those horror stories. We lived 13 miles from I-10 in AZ for 14 years and never heard any horror stories. I-10 does not go through Arkansas. It does go directly into L.A.

With winter coming I would avoid having to drive through the Rockies and possibly encountering snow.

If time permits there are interesting places to see along the way.

Driven this 10 twice from Florida to LA, and did not experience any speed traps although this is a very boring route I have to say. You can make a detour through Austin to experience Hill country winch is pretty interesting, but other than that There's nothing to see really.
