6 weeks.

I was taking summer classes for one term and lived in the student housing for those 6 weeks. (This was back in 2007.)

I moved nine times in five years (in my 40s, after a divorce).

In retrospect, those were some sad times. I didn't like going from pillar to post.

6 months but it was more of a "deciding what I am going to do with my life" kind of move.

I grew up in my parents home. Lived there from 1965 till 1984. Moved to Taft, California and spent 6 months there. Moved back home to my parents home and stayed untill late 1985. After that I served a 2 year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Iowa. Lived in Evansale, Iowa for 6 months, Moline, IL for 7 months, Grinnell, Iowa for 5 months, then Ceder Rapids for 6 months.

Moved back home to my parents home from late 1987 till 1989. Moved to an apartment for a year and a half, then to a house for a year, then back to apartment living, living in three differant apartments in the same complex for the next 18 years. Now we live in a home that we bought in 2010 and do not plan on moving again. Well we plan on buying another home but not sure if we will ever move from the home we are in. Our plan is to rent it out and live in another home but that will be at least 5 years from now and maybe we won't want to do it then. Our kids are getting older and within 5 years we will have 3 college grads (Hopefully) and four kids that will have completed high school.

Those who say geography can't bring happiness are confused, IMHO.

I did something very similar - moved to the East Coast and paid $2,500 to have everything shipped there - and then six weeks later, I went back to the Midwest. My friend said, "Rose, don't beat yourself up too much. It was a $5,000 education and a good life lesson."

He was right.

May '82 - January '83.
I was in my late teens and still living at home. My dad got an apt. I didn't care much for (but he was the one paying the bills). Anyway, after a time business fell off where he worked (he was self-employed). Got so bad that he fell in arrears, to the point where he couldn't get caught up. In January '83 we were evicted. Mixed feelings, as I didn't much care for the place.

5 months.
I moved to NYC for graduate school. Loved school but in the 70's NY pollution was bad and my asthma, gone over 10 years, reappeared and I literally had to sleep sitting up in order to breathe. I also looked at my classmates and thought "I'll never get a college teaching position, they have better connections". So at end of term headed north for summer resort work and figure out my life. Good decision.

Not much to move, I was a broke student, no furniture, few possessions, all fit in my car with room to spare.
