Just when I was starting to enjoy myself something happens. I came through El Paso yesterday eager to visit Texas. Just out side of Van Horn I cruise into a Border Patrol checkpoint. Trucks in one lane, cars another. Everyone is being waived through. I approach the agent asks me if I am a citizen, I reply yes. This is where it gets weird. As I start to drive off he stops me and asks me for ID. Funny, I didn't see him ask anyone ahead of me for ID. I give it to him and he proceeds to move around my minivan looking in all the windows. He opens the side door and looks around inside. He could clearly see everything; nothing but clothes, personal items, etc. He says they want to bring out the narcotics dog and to move to the inspection area. I am shocked but do as instructed. They tell me to exit the vehicle and take me inside their building where I see no less than 15 agents milling about laughing, joking, eating and generally clowning around. They say sit down and wait. I ask why I'm being detained but no answer. Looking through the window I can see everyone being waived through. I can see my van...no dog. I see an agent looking at things inside. After a while a different agent hands me my license and rudely tells me I can go. They, of course didn't find anything and there was no reasonable cause for suspicion. What I saw was an egregious waste of taxpayer money by agents who act above the law and pick out law abiding citizens for their amusement. Welcome to Texas!

You might love the Blue Ridge Mtns. in Western NC, if you haven't been there ... home of Billy Graham, in Montreat area near Black Mountain, 15 miles west of Asheville. Friendly, laid back, gorgeous area, mild winters, mid 80's for highs in the summer .... the best of the southeast. check out www.ourstate.com very informative.

Yes I have and good you got rid of that bad half. Life is full of amazing opportunities and moving away will help you get over those bad memories. It's a lot easier than staying around there. Plus you deserve a better life with more options. I went through that 5 years ago and I relocated back home. I felt I need love, support and friends and it will do you good for your self-esteem. Then you'll meet the mate of your life. It takes some time to heal and chill out. More than what we usually think, but hang in there. Better days are coming!
