Use spare blankets for packing? (Uhaul, Budget, furniture, expensive)

I am going through the house now and boxing up things to sell at a yard sale and to keep (and move). My kids have so many fleece blankets laying around the house. Do you think those would be useful for packing a pod for moving, or should I just get rid of them?

We are hoping to move cross country and I've never moved more than an hour and a half from where I was born, so I don't have a lot of experience with this type of move.

I've done it. Beach towels and other '2nd tier' blankets/towels too.

And, after you move they can be donated to a shelter or thrift store.

Great! Wasn't sure if they were a good enough substitute for packing blankets. Maybe we will need one or two of those also...

You can rent furniture pads from UHaul, Budget, etc. I think they are rented by the pack--like 20 of them or something. They're not too expensive and come in very handy.

Next time I move I was thinking of using bath towels to wrap breakable glass stuff, then putting the wrapped pieces in dresser drawers (in dressers) as some kind of superbox. Has anyone tried that?

stuffed animals make great padding too, to fill spaces and voids, That way everything is tight and doesn't move around in the box

Glasses should be packed in a "standing up" position. Plates, as well. You could borrow a book on how to pack from the library.

Fleece blankets, towels, pillows, clothes. Sheets, comforters, etc. Anything will work so long as it's soft and provides cushion between dishes.

I'd rather have my dishes wrapped in my t-shirts and jeans than deal with the mess that packing peanuts cause when unpacking. (Not to mention how expensive and wasteful they are).
