I am a 28 year old male without any college degree. I have a lot of experience with automotive detailing and guest services as I currently work in a casino. I have been thinking about moving for the past 10 years but never had the guts to drop everything and leave. I want to live somewhere by the coast. Yes I know it is expensive by the coast. I currently live in Madison, Wisconsin. I want great diversity along with a great college town per what I'm used to. I have contemplated the Charleston, SC area as the cost of living is similar to Madison. San Francisco is the ideal choice but the cost of living is insane. If anyone has advice or experience of moving without anything, would be helpful. Rather desperate.

You can live in the Bay Area, if you sacrifice for it...have roommates, a longer commute to work, work two jobs, anything can be done, just do it...

Or you can look at places somewhat close to the coast. Reno and Las Vegas are a 4 hour drive away, and you might get a decent job with your casino experience. That is if you want to stay in the industry. You don't have to live in expensive coastal towns to enjoy the area, anywhere that is relatively close to drive within a couple hours on the weekend might be good enough to start out at least.

You could try Arcata in Humboldt County, CA. It's a college town on the coast and relatively inexpensive. There are casinos in the state:

Portland, Oregon is a good town for young folks and only a couple hours from the coast. Same with other cities further south in Oregon.

Problem with small coastal towns is lack of work.

Rather than move directly to a coastal town you could choose a less expensive place in proximity and then have opportunity to explore what might work along the coast for next move.

Good luck!

Perhaps the University City area of Philadelphia could work and there is a casino there, with another in the works, I believe. You aren't far from Atlantic City and the beaches in NJ or DE either. Newark DE is a college town not too far away as well. I believe that there are some casinos in DE too.

There are a ton of Indian casinos in CA. I'm thinking you could target the ones in the SF Bay Area. It would get you here, then you can always eventually do something else, if you wanted to.

San Francisco Bay Area Indian Casinos

Depending on what your experience is, you can make decent money.

I worked as a slots cashier and a cage cashier at Cache Creek Casino when I was going to a community college in Woodland, CA. Of everyone I talked to who worked there (except the tribal members lol!) I swear it was the valets and the dealers who made the most money. I was surprised the valets did so well.

There are other valet jobs in SF, too. I think you can make pretty good money.

Anyway, there are plenty jobs in the SF Bay Area, and trust me, everyone who lives there isn't rich. Where there's a will, there's a way :-)

I don't think you'll be able to replicate the Madison college vibe in CA, though. But, you may still like it here.

Thank you for all the information! I have a lot of research ahead of me. I would think about Portland, OR but I have to much family there lol

San Diego might be a good fit.

Big auto environment in Miami, Daytona FL. You might want to take your detailing skills and look there, cost of living is much lower. You could look at adding pin striping, airbrushing to your skill set there. Good money in that. Also stereo customizations, air rides, etc.
