I will be using one of the large Trans National Moving companies to go from NYC to LA. Unfortunately I cannot pack everything of value with me in my carry on bag (airplane). I'd like to hide some things in my moving boxes.
I understand that there might be checkpoints like agriculture or weight stations along the way. What is the chance of my boxes being opening and searched ? Do moving companies computer scan their loads for prohibited items or are boxes opened along the way by US Officials or dog searches ?
hmmm, depends on whether LA is the city in California or the state LA.
If it is in CA they will definitely have the agriculture check, gypsy moths or something like that as well as any plants, fruits or vegetable when the truck enters CA. CA will also check for recyclables that are being brought into the state for redemption. And sometimes other things--drugs, people, etc.
