I had posted in another thread about our moving dilemma -- was thinking Penske truck at the time. Since then, made the call for moving containers. Locked in on ABF ReloCubes b/c of price and b/c their pickup/dropoff schedule seemed best.

But...just realized that their cube is only 93 inches inside at longest edge (height), and about a foot less in length and width. Our sectional (which we really, really don't want to sell) can be broken down, but the longest piece is 95 inches.

So looks like we'll be switching over to Mayflower or PODS. Unless some packing Jedi here can assure me that a sectional packed diagonally would fit and survive a 1500 miles move.

Sounds like ABF UPack may be overkill for you, but compare to Pods.

We used a relocube last year for our sectional that could be dismantled into two pieces and each piece was 72 inches long. There wasn't a whole lot of room left at the top once it was in there vertically, doesn't sound like your sectional will work for a relocube.

They also have a pack a truck option where they deliver a truck to you and you fill the front of the truck and then install a divider. You might want to ask them about that option.

There is a chance that you might get your sectional in if positioned on the diagional in a relocube, but you might also be putting significant structional pressure on in, perhaps enough to weaken or break internal supports. I've seen it done, but they broke the armrest to do it.

If it's that valuable of a piece to you, strongly consider another option, as Lae60 mentioned.

For the future: if you think there are more moves in your future, buy smaller pieces. Even if you use a truck, smaller pieces are easier for everyone to move and reposition in the room.

Thanks all. Am considering ABF trailer (have used it before), but they can't park it in our neighborhood, so it would require moving from house to terminal to load it, which adds cost and hassle. Most likely will have to go Mayflower container. It's $1000 more than ABF ($4k instead of $3k), but I don't think we have another play, all things considered.

If you still want to try the ReloCube, consider marking out a 82" by 93" square on your living room or garage floor, then see if placing the sectional diagonally in the square will fit. You have about 124" (corner to corner) on the diagonal to work with. If it does fit, then consider how to stack boxes etc under it to support it in the middle and not by just the ends.

Good luck........

I don't know what your neighborhood looks like, but do you have any friends who live in a different nearby community who would be willing (and able) to have the ABF trailer parked in front of their home? This would certainly be better than the terminal and still allow you to save some money.
