I live in a rural area and the nearest town is about 10 miles away. I do not have reliable transportation. There is no public transportation. I'm 18, even if I had a drivers license it wouldn't matter because a free car doesn't come with it. I don't have any friends or family to move in with, all my family lives even farther out in the country than me and I'd need a daily ride since no where is in walking distance. I just don't have a lot of friends........

I just need to be able to get a job and get there everyday and open up a bank account to save money. Is there some kind of website to find people who'll give you temporary free shelter? I know that might not be safe but I need help. I've applied for a few jobs and miraculously even got a job interview! It was a big group interview, I didn't get the job. Do I need to get on unemployment? I need money and don't have reliable transportation to a job.

I have no money, no reliable transportation, and nobody to help me. I think hitchhiking is illegal, I don't want to go to jail. Plus most people don't want to pick up hitchhikers these days.

College is out of the question for now, even with financial aid, I may never go.....

I don't qualify to join the military.

With at least one REAL skill and a few useful backup skills...
some cash to cover cheap rent and incidentals should be enough for ONE.

I'm not sure how college is out of the question when your only other viable option (the military)...you say you're unqualified for. If you're a high school graduate and want to attend college there are options. The following traditional public universities have open admissions for high school graduates and offer financial aid via grants, scholarships and more importantly guaranteed student loans which not only can pay for school, but your living expenses as well.

West Virginia University
University of Houston - Downtown
University of Maine
Texas Southern University
Wichita State University
Missouri Western State University
Kansas State University
Eastern Kentucky University
Washburn University (KS)
University of Alaska-Anchorage
University of Toledo
Weber State University (UT)
Bowling Green State University (OH) Firelands Campus

Contact local churches to see if they have any resources available, or local homeless shelters in your area. If the military isn't an option for you, maybe some sort of volunteer organization might be an option.

I need to make money. I just want to move out of state, and then I'll see what I want to do from there.

Where are you located? Why do you want to move "out of state?"

My location is unimportant. I just want to move out of state for a new start.

You are 18, have no license, no money, no job. That's a tough one.

What kind of work is available around you? Is there someone you could catch a ride with who lives nearby? Do you live where it is warm enough to ride a bike?

It's usually TOO hot. I might get fired for showing up to a job all covered in sweat. Plus I might pass out and wake up in the emergency room.

Where do you live?

In my area in MN there are lots of dairy farms that always need milkers, and they usually provide room and board as part of your pay. In North Dakota they still do hire unskilled workers in the natural gas fields and you could live in a man camp. Lots of resorts and casinos around the country provide entry level jobs with room and board. None of these would be your permanent forever job but they'd give you a fresh start and some money in your pocket for your next step. None of these jobs REQUIRE you to have a car, although you'd probably want to save your money to get one.

How do you find out about these jobs? The newspaper classified ads from many places are on-line. Just hunt by (name of town) and (classifieds). Also, there should be a state job service office somewhere near you, and the counselors there should be able to give you good advice.

I know it can be hard when you live rurally to get part time or temp jobs which would enable you to save money for a trip. But can't you borrow enough money from a relative or friend for bus fare? You can pay them back once you start earning.

Tell us where you are located (just the general area is fine) so that we can help you better.
