I usually leave plenty of water, Gatorade, coke and diet coke in a cooler for the movers, I also tip $20--$30 per person in the middle of the move and say something like will you be taking a lunch break? Then you can use this now for lunch. Just lets them know I appreciate their efforts. It works. A person can't do their best when hungry. Ok, perhaps they should have thought ahead and packed a lunch but it doesn't always work out that way.

While I find the practice of tipping people to do their job unsettling and tend to fight against it, I do tip for exceptional work. But, to answer the OP's question, I'd tip on the first day in the event the movers are different for the second day.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Basically in the past and what I will do again in a few days, is put some sodas and bottled water in the frig's and tell them that they are for them.

I think it makes for a better move.
I understand the logic of tipping them in advance, but then if they do a less than stellar job, you tipped them for poor service.
