Hi. Maybe I'm just over thinking this but, How do you plan a move if the moving company is quoting a turn around time of 2-17 days? It would personally take me and my family 3 days/2 nights to drive to the new place and I don't know how I'm supposed to rush up there to meet the moving company at the new place to meet there 2 day window only to sit there for 2 weeks with nothing if the moving company is in the latter or their time window. I don't understand how I'm to plan this? Thanks for any advice.
I dont think many will take that long, its just to protect them in case of delays. My aunt went through this and stayed at a hotel till they arrived which was only maybe one night. Could bring air matress and essentials to sleep at the new home or if you have family to stay with until movers arrive.
As a Plan B, do you have someone you trust who can go to the house, unlock it, and supervise the movers?
If you bought a house, you might check with your realtor: some have office interns to do those sorts of tasks.
As a last resort, I've heard of families requiring that the mover phone them two hours before, and if they are still a day away, the move in is canceled for that day. Be advised: it might be another week before they can get to you if you do that, depending on your company. Some are better than others about scheduling.
As an aside: this is why I rent a truck and drive it myself when possible.
I suppose it depends on the length of the drive for the movers. I would be more concerned with getting there in 3 days and being without your things for the next 14. If it's going to take you 3 days/2 nights to get out there, I'm going to say that there's is little chance that a moving truck will beat you there. Is there a way to let them know of your driving plans?
For reference: My family is moving across the country. The moving company is loading our truck on June 5th and we were told it would probably be 7-10 days for delivery. We are anticipating a 4 day/3 night drive. So there will be a few days where we will be camping out in our new place, but I'm planning to ship a box to the new location so we have some provisions for those few days.
