PROFESSIONAL Movers are worth their weight in gold. If they know what they are doing you can expect a great job.

Don't pinch pennies with them, don't be a busy body as long as they are doing things in an orderly, CLEAN, WELL PADDED manner, and DO keep them well hydrated.

IF they do a good job, tip them appropriately. The overall experience will be the best few hundred bucks you have ever spent.

I've been constantly making trips to Walmart and buying boxes. With them being the same size, I have a wall stack of them. They are definitely back breaking heavy so I'm glad I won't be moving em. lol

This is making me uneasy. It's the day before the move, and the movers have not called me to tell me what time they are coming. Is that normal?

What time zone are you in? Assuming you are in the U.S., it's not even noon so I shouldn't think you'd expect a phone call just yet for a move tomorrow. When I scheduled movers, at the time of order I was given a window of time in which they would arrive. I think I was also given a confirmation number but I can't be sure. I received a call the evening before with the exact time they'd arrive the next day. This is because it's better all around if they make the schedule so that there is as much efficiency as possible. The schedule takes into account number of people needing to be moved that day, where they need to move, traffic, etc.

If you're worried, maybe just call them. I think it's likely they'll say that they will call later with a confirmed time (unless they already have tomorrow's scheduled prepared), but I guess better to relieve your anxieties.

We used movers the first time 2 years ago. I will always use movers from now on. Call multiple movers and have them come & give an estimate - never trust one who gives an estimate over the phone.

My husband helped out, but I found I was nervous & in the way, so I spent a good part of the day just hanging out with our dogs and trying to keep them calm. They dismantled & re-assembled anything that needed it. Make sure things are put away in containers & boxes...I had things in laundry baskets and they were reluctant to take them because they weren't secure enough.

In the end, they did a great job and we ended up buying them pizza. They chilled with us & had pizza for a while and turned out to be pretty cool guys.

Thinking about writing a new post about my experience because I wasn't pleased at all. First they scheduled me 12-2, right smack in the middle of my U-verse install. So I called U-verse to bump their appt to 2-4.

I got a call that the movers would be arriving around 1pm. They didn't show up until 2pm! The first thing that surprised me was one of the movers said I could give them tips if I wanted. I never thought about tipping the movers. I did offer them bottled water. They were in and out pretty fast so I was happy at that point. I noticed they left their tool bag so I grabbed it and went to the new place.

Everything was chaotic at the new place. The U-verse guy was trying to explain things while the mover guy went over the charges. The rate was $100 an hour, and I was charged for 2.5 hours. I had put down a $100 deposit which was suppose to go towards the charges. After looking at the paperwork later, it looks like I was billed for over $500 bucks! And I was fretting all that time whether to give them a tip or not. They also did a lousy job reassembling my bed with the screws crooked.

Even worse, I noticed several floor tiles had a large crack right where my heavy boxes was placed. It really baffles me because surely I would have noticed these cracks when the new apartment was empty. But these guys were using dollies and I wouldn't think they would have just dropped the box with such force to cause a crack. I can't really prove it was them.

And the guy left his tool bag again so I had to chase down the truck as they were leaving. lol Thank goodness I didn't leave a tip! This was a national moving company so I expected better treatment.

That sucks...I would call the company and complain. I'm surprised they mentioned a tip to you right off the bat. At least the move is over
