Hi, I've posted before about my cross-country drive with a cat that's now coming up hopefully tomorrow. Long story short, I was planning to sell her cat tree because it was too expensive to ship (from what I've found), and I'm driving in a sedan and taking only what fits. I would buy her a new one there.
But today my cat is having trouble letting go, I think! (She already whined and looked pitiful when I sold "her" chair.) Someone came to buy it, and she was hiding there and hissing at her (unusual). The woman runs a cat rescue and said maybe I should hold onto it at least for tonight...if I find a way to transport it cross-country, I may keep it, but otherwise she would take it.
So, any ideas for how to move a huge (ceiling height) cat tree cross country? I can't make many changes in my moving plans now, I don't think.
Thanks so much...a similar question has probably been asked before, but I'm rushing around last minute and hoped it would be OK to post.
A refrigerator box that has been slimmed down and added to with duct tape atop may work, and then strapping to the roof of car for tranport.
If one of my kitties was that attached, I would do my best to keep something to try and keep her/his treasure.
Thanks...yes, the last thing I want to do is stress her out more. I did talk to FedEx again, and it sounded like (on a very bad connection) it would be at least $80 to pack it, or $400-something to ship it to my new place. I'm just not very strong or handy to do it on my own...but I guess I have to think about figuring out something. Thanks again.
I bought my kitty a new one first thing. Yours will adjust, too.
Don't stress anymore than you have too. Good luck on your trip and let us know how it went.
Thanks...yeah, I think the stress isn't good, and the idea of shipping it seems kind of ridiculous, but I do want her to be happy. The woman who came to see it today from the rescue said she'd never seen one this sturdy and big, that she wondered who made it. When I looked up cat trees online, none compared...they all seem flimsy next to it.
But I could definitely get her the best with what I'd save on shipping this one! Maybe I'll have to go with that...thanks!
Is the tree covered in carpet ? Consider stripping off the carpet and lining a box with it for the cat to travel in. Maybe the cat likes the smells, etc, not the tree itself so much.

Good Luck whatever you do..........
Yes, it's very thin carpet, though...not sure how it would come off, and then the cat rescue wouldn't be able to get use of it either, I think. She does have a blanket she likes, and I was going to bring an old sweater of mine...and I have Feliway and other cat-friendly things to try to help. (She's spoiled a little, as she should be!) Thanks.
I guess i'd look on line and see how much a nice one will cost and compare that to the shipping cost. I got my kitty a scratching post at 3 1/2' high and it was $20+ and it's just a post. Either way, I'm sure she'll be happy with the original or with a new one. I have to say though, this is probably one of the sweetest questions i've seen posted on here. It's great to know a pet has a loving home. Good luck on your move and enjoy your new home.
