I'll be donating my car before getting on a plane to my new home. I have some nice jewelry that isn't worth lots because I don't care for precious stones, like rubies & diamonds. But the jewelry has sentimental value & I'd hate to have a mover take it.
I think it would all fit in a Pyrex measuring cup holding 2 cups liquid. Too much for under-garment wallets. But scary to put all in one purse.
Have it on you and be prepared to be questioned and searched. Ziplock type bags in your purse will do nicely. You can always wear a crossover under your coat.
If it's personal property and you are permanently relocating, most countries don't charge duty or VAT on those items. So it comes down to convenience for you. Carry it with you in any of the recommended ways or as NoMoreSnow said, just ship it with a delay shipment date. I use DHL and never had an issue with them and customs in any EU country. They just list it as personal property. If there is any issues upon it's arrival, they will contact you and explain what needs to be done. It's a lot easier dealing with customs when your already in the country and somewhat settled in versus at the airport where certain documentation may be in a box sitting in your residence and not readily available when you need it.
