Smile Job vs City

Should one choose a great job in a city they'd prefer to not be in or a great city with a miserable job?

Wondering if anyone out there has had the same dilemna...
I lived in NYC most of my life and was in need of a change being single and in my mid 30s. I had gotten fed up with the NYC lifestyle (no car, small spaces, high $ apts, cold weather) and had wanted a change. I was fortunate to spend some time in SoCal and decided to make the move to Santa Monica. I left a great job, but decided I needed the change. Now, that I'm at my 6 month mark here in LA...I'm not entirely happy. I do love living here...the lifestyle that is...having a car...great weather and outdoor activities, but am miserable at my job. Since 5 out of 7 days are spent at work...it is important for me to be satisfied with my career. I can go back to my "great" job/career in NYC, but I know I'd be giving up this great lifestyle. I'm so confused! There are some that say your a lucky person if you truly enjoy your work (which I did in NY). Does one choose a job over the city or the city over the job?

Would love to hear some feedback.

Does one choose a job over the city or the city over the job?
I chose a job over a city once, and regretted it. I had been living in the Atlanta area for about 3 years, when my parents decided to relocate back to South Florida (which is where we're all from). I decided to stay behind because I loved my job, and more specifically my co-workers. I HATED living in Georgia, but my co-workers made it bearable. But I still regretted the decision a few months down the line. So, I packed up and moved to S. FL a year ago. I took a pretty big salary cut, and COL is much higher here. But I still prefer to be here than GA. That was my experience.

What do you do? Can you not try to find another job in L.A.? Since months is not a very long time, I'd say give it another few months before you really decide if you want to go back.
