Hello, My husband and I have been contemplating for awhile on moving from Western NY to Southern Idaho. Big decision as it will cost us thousands of dollars. (we won't pack one bag and move) I guess my question is, how do people survive in Idaho with minimum wage being so low and housing being so high? I don't understand how 7.25 an hour can pay 900 monthly rent. (throwing a number out there) Is there anything I should know? We are looking around the Twin Falls area. Close to Jerome or in Jerome County would be nice! I do have family there, but don't want to intrude on their day to day lives!
Is there any way for your and your husband to increase your skill levels so you don't have to work minimum wage ? Minimum wage was never to be a permanent wage- it was meant as a starting wage .
If you can't your only other choice is to work multiple jobs. Each of you would have to a find a full time job, plus at least a part time job.
Another possibility would to try to find some sort of care keeping / farm sitting type of job where you could get reduced rent in return for a certain amount work on the property.
But seriously your best bet over the long term is to develop work skills that pay enough to live comfortably with reasonable work hours. Good luck.
