How does pods or similar work, do they have small containers for thinks like just a dinning table, chairs and the removable leaves? Thought I'd start here to see if I can get an idea .

The U-Haul containers (which THEY haul) are probably the smallest of the major companies. PODS and Pack rats are larger.

Ah. Then the U-haul containers are probably the way to go. If they aren't heirlooms, though, it might be cheaper to just send her money to buy some new stuff. You're a nice mom :-)
