WOW - searched for reviews on several sites. They may have the worst set of reviews I've ever seen!
There's the problem - too many of them have reviews like this, and a huge number of reviews are due to not being picked up on time. also many for this company where the driver demanded more money than was contracted for with uship before releasing the vehicle.
not sure if you are saying you got reviews for the individual companies or if its for the website itself. As for not releasing the vehicle, that's illegal, and if it happens you should call the police.
There is a company called "Auto Plane" that runs out of MacArthur Airport. You drop your car off at the airport and they drop it off in Fort Meyers. Not sure about the price or reviews. Just a thought.
I did not know about this. WIll def check it out - thanks
uship.com is just essentially an auction site- it's not the company that actually moves your car. Once you get bids on uship you can check the reviews of individual shippers and make your decision. They have other forms of shipment as well, where they link you with people using pre-agreed rates, but the same idea applies.
I've done a car with them and had no problems with the independent carrier that it linked me to, but that carrier also happened to have good reviews (which is why I chose that carrier).
Your post is like saying "I would never use ebay because ebay has bad reviews", even though it's the individual sellers whose reviews you need to read.
If they let you know the Carrier before booking & paying, then that sounds OK. Thanks
I need to ship my car from Long Island to Sarasota.
Problem is, I only have a 2 day window in NY for pickup. A delivery date is not such a big deal.
In reading reviews, I see complaint after complaint about late pickups. I simply cannot allow for that to happen.
Also, there is a cost matter. Last year, I searched for a transporter, and the place that seemed best gave me a $700 quote. The other day, that same company gave me a $1125 quote! And the price of fuel is down from last year.
Any recommendations?
Do you have a trusted friend or family member? My grandmother would have me, my dad or one of my uncles drive her car from NJ to FL. She gave me her gas card, paid me a few bucks and for flight back home and we had a nice visit too. It was even helpful to get situated at the FL house.
It was cheaper than transport service, less hassle and if plans changed no big deal.
We fly down. Train does not allow dogs. Can't drive that distance. And it is about 6 hours' drive to train anyway, plus about 4 hours on other end.
The auto train runs from just outside Washington DC to Sanford FL.. Coming from NY your still have to deal with NJ, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington DC traffic. Then on the the other end Orlando traffic. The Autotrain cuts out the easier, albeit boring portion of the drive, and it can be pricey
My mom is from North Florida but I grew up in NJ. I have made the trip from NJ to FL so many times in my life. When we were kids my parents would drive straight through to Jacksonville. But now if they go up north they split the trip into at least 2-3 days. Visiting family and friends in Maryland and North Carolina sometimes or Historical sites that we never had time to visit when we were kids and time and money were more limited.
If worse comes to worse perhaps take a few days to drive and visit family/friends on the way or historical sites

Last year we were able to find someone to drive my car down. But timing/job responsibiities won't allow for that this year.
I'd love to drive down. Problem is, besides being kinda old & not able to drive all that many hours, that my wife is allergic to dogs & cats. So we can't stay in a hotel that allows dogs. Yet, we have a dog - a hairless one that she is not allergic to. So we'd have to stay in a hotel that allows dogs, but can't. But I think the spinal stenosis is a bit more of a reason to not be able to drive. And as you point out, the autotrain doesn't save all that much when coming from NY & then going to w coast of FL.
That one mentioned out of MacArthur airport sounds promising.
And btw. Sometimes truckers have emty hauls in the right direction. they can take car inside. Buddies had several cars driven like this across the country for them. you just need to know the right people. Cars are much cheaper to buy in say GA than here in WA.
Reliable and Intercity are both good companies ... mostly enclosed trailers and higher end cars
