I'm planning of moving when I'm 62 and working part-time 10-20 hours a week for the same company I work for now, but in a different state.
Would you look for a house in a town you really like but have to commute 20 miles to get to work or compromise and move to a town that you can work in without commuting even though you don't like the town as much?
The town I like has nearly everything on my list of wants including lower crime rates, lower cost of living and better demographics, the other town not so much although it's also very livable. I would be working probably for another 2-3 years only. Thoughts?

Can you work from home for those 2-3 years? If not, maybe you could rent near work and then move into your home when work is over.

Wish that could be an option but it's not.

20 miles in some areas is only a 30 min drive and in other areas it can be an hour. So how bad is traffic?

Not bad at all. It would be less than a 30 minute drive unless there is bad weather or a traffic accident.

I would move to the town I liked. Your commute will not be long and, besides, the 2-3 years will probably disappear in a flash.

Nicer town, assuming that that area has the stuff you need (besides work) and just isn't out in BFE with nothing there.

You may live in the town much longer than the 2-3 years you will be working. Plus, it is only part time. During the time that you will not be working, I would want to enjoy where I am living. Go for the town that you enjoy.
