Many folks aren't into pot. There's far more to living somewhere where pot is legal. Many folks from bible belt states are happier with others like them, who grew up with the same beliefs, etc. If they're happy, that's what matters. Life's too short to be miserable.
funny thing is I don't currently smoke pot, but the reason I brought it up is that it's a good indicator of a laid back community. contrary to would movies and TV will have you believe, stoners tend to be laid back go with the flow type people.
One of the ings I don't like about the bible belt I've noticed is the "Keep up with the jonses" mentality people seem to have here.
It's 100% worth moving to do whatever it takes to be near your kids. They need their dad there nearby. Nothing, not even money, is more important than being near your kids. Glad you're working toward that direction
I think the pay cut is a minor issue here. If I were OP, I would look long and hard at the family situation. Why did the wife take the kids and move that far away 3 years ago? What was the situation when they were all living together. Three years is a very long time and it will be very difficult to adjust to full-time living together again.
What does the wife and kids think about husband taking job that pays less and moving full-time to new location? I think their thoughts might be more important than ours here at C-D.
It is much easier to "visit" family than to live with them full-time. Easier to remember the good times, than the bad ones.
If the family life is solid, was solid before wife took off 3 years ago with the kids, and it is heartbreaking to be apart, take the job and pay cut. I would "demand" my husband have gotten moved before 3 years, even if it meant quitting his job and us living lean until he got something else.
