Hi. Can you give me rough estimate to move a 3 br townhouse 500 miles using a moving company? I will pack, and they will load onto their truck, drive, and unload there.
Best way is bite the bullet and call United or Mayflower or?
Remember it is the same amount of labor to load and unload whether they are driving 500 or 1500 miles. It is still a multi-day move. Also if by townhouse you mean stairs it will be additional.
A lot depends on the weight. If you’re moving a piano, heavy furniture, books, etc. it will cost more for a long-distance move. Several thousand is a guesstimate.

This is on an aside... books are very heavy and I am thinking that getting rid of what I won't be reading again is the smart thing to do before moving. I've never hired movers but will be in a yr. or so. I'm assuming they factor in book weight?
A few thousand dollars sounds right. We moved roughly half of a 4-bedroom house in this manner. Packed the boxes ourselves and let Mayflower do everything else. As I recall it was between $3000 and $4000, about 900 miles between houses. The "start" house was a two-story, but the "end" house was single-story with no steps.
Be extremely diligent in packing your own boxes, as the moving company will not take responsibility for any damage to items in boxes they did not pack. Also, be sure to have a minimum of two people available to supervise while loading an unloading. You need one person to manage the inventory sheet.
