I don't want to sell on CL. I'm wondering if after I move out of my house I could hire someone to sell what's in it. They could take a percentage of the profit or whatever. I know I could hire a personal assistant or someone like that to do it for me, but I'm wondering if there are perhaps established companies that might do this for me.

You can start here:

I had one of these outfits sell out my household stuff when I downsized after my wife died. You don't have to be there. In fact they prefer that you are not around. They do work on a percentage.

We looked into this when one of my relatives died in a state none of us lived close to. There are estate sale companies that will take specific items of value out of a house on consignment or for auctions, but they will want to come estimate the contents first. If they don't think there's much of value that will be easy to sell/auction, they won't be interested. Their commissions are fairly high.

You might check with local real estate agents to see if they know of any local services who clear out/sell/donate/haul away house contents regardless of value. We finally did this as most of the stuff in the relative's house wasn't high value. The service estimated and charged by the square foot.

Of course there's always the option to hold a house sale yourself, maybe pay someone by the hour to staff it for you. You'd have to advertise the sale, mark prices and arrange everything, but people would come to the house at least.

There are places that will come and look at your stuff your leaving behind and give you a quote on how much they will pay you you. Don't expect a huge windfall. They will come with trucks and empty the house of all items and sell them out of a store. There is a place near me, it's called "Empty the Nest".

This is their web site. May something similar in your area.

There are individuals out there who assist elderly couples who are retired with downsizing their homes. While your situation doesn't seem to fit this exactly, It may be some kind of side work that they would be willing to take. Worth a shot anyways if all the above suggestions fail.
