If employer contract/offer was not "as" promised" then no payback, but if employee left of own free will? Then, yes, prorated payback.

Eh, just saw it was a one post wonder from Aug. 3rd...

You have to give it back! My move is across country. If I found another job in the same area, no biggee. I've never been paid relocation before now.

My current job and my last job paid relocation benefits upon hire. It really depends on the specific agreement the employee signed with the company.

1st time: I would've had to pay it back if I voluntarily left before one year (no mention of being terminated, though)
2nd time: I would need to pay it back if I leave voluntarily or am terminated "with cause" (as they put it) before two years

The 2nd one brought me to a much better city than before, so even if things don't work out long term, there are plenty of other business locally in my field.

As for the OP....no idea why they're asking us about their own company's policy LOL.

Funny, I didn't read this as an employee asking about the processing. I read it as someone from HR wondering how to do his or her job.

If some cases, if an employee is terminated for cause, the payback may be waived to dissuade the employee from fighting the termination itself.
