I am planing to relocate from alberta to houston for work. i live inside a one bedroom apartment that has good bit of furniture. I also have a 2012 ford fusion 4 cylinder car that will be taking with me. I was wondering if i were to rent a 5 x 8 uhaul trailer then can it tow the following :

- one queen size bed with a box and a frame
- one couch with three seats and one with single seat
- dining table with four chairs
- about 3-4 medium boxes of clothes and other items.
- miscellaneous side table that can be taken apart.

Can my ford fusion with a four cylinder tow that much?

No, the trailer will not fit all those items inside.

No, your car can not tow all that.

Sell or give away anything that won't fit into a cardboard box.
Sell or give away anything else of low/marginal value.
Mail what's left over (and won't fit in the Fusion)

When you get to Houston... hit the yard sales and such
(to buy the stuff those folks are getting rid of before a move)

WOW! Calculate the cubic volume of all that stuff and compare the answer to the cubic volume of the trailer.

Weigh everything and compare that to the weight limit of the trailer.

Check your Fusion's owner's manual for tow capacity.

Then sell everything but the boxes.

according to uhaul, my car can tow that trailer. I was checking out the space inside the trailer and it fits almost everything as long as i sell the couch and sofa. The queen size bed and dining table and the other boxes go in easily.

How much is transmission on Fusion? Unless it's tow package equipped.

A 2.5L V4 engine should be able to 1400-1600 lbs. my car is just a standard car , it doesn't have tow package. I will add a hitch to it for towing.

According to a 2012 Fusion owner's manual at http://www.fordservicecontent.com/Fo.../12fsnog3e.pdf page 205

TRAILER TOWING
WARNING:
Never tow a trailer with this vehicle. Your vehicle is
not equipped to tow. No towing packages are available through
an authorized dealer

No. I moved a couple years ago with a 93 Nissan pickup and pulled a small U-Haul 4 x 8 trailer.

I would not have been able to haul what you want to haul even with the pickup loaded up and the trailer.

My suggestion is to rent a U-Haul truck and tow the car behind it.

Unless you have something special. I would sell what you have and buy again in Houston. You can find some great deals on Nextdoor.
