The home we are moving to needs everything starting with the locksmith at the front door. A plumber is also being arranged once the locksmith can let him in. My question is when do we turn the gas and power on, and should we wait till we are there to do so?
If you have repair men coming it would probably be a good idea to have your utilities hooked up. They made need electrical outlets, or hot water, or..... Might as well get started and good luck!
gas/electric can probably be activated in advance and likely should, especially if some repairs may take longer than anticipated. Power tools may be needed to be plugged in if a lot needs to be done.
All excellent advice from the posters! I've been there, done what they said, and the workers who worked there before I arrived were able to do their work AND wash up (with water and hot water), stash their lunches in the refrigerator, use power tools, etc. They need an equipped working environment so that they can do the work you employed them to do.
Thank you all, turns out the plumber is going to be turning the gas on during his work, which will include the water heater. The image of the poor guy not being able to wash his hands or use the fridge really got me!
Here's an interesting site that will help you connect and disconnect your utilities. I haven't tried them myself (yet) but am considering it because I had trouble with an electric company in the past. They continued to bill me after I had moved out. Since I wasn't aware of it, it appeared on my credit report and has been very difficult to remove...even after paying the charges. The best laid plans...
