Well I gotta admire you for wanting to travel light ! I thumbed my way around the U.S. before I turned into an old codger seemingly overnight ! I once met a Brazilian girl who hitch-hiked pretty much all over Europe and a few far flung countries as well. When I met her I asked how she kept herself safe roaming the world by herself and her answer kind of shocked me. She said that she would never get in the car if the guy had a beard !!!
