grebneller is on a distinguished road
Yep we are young. 23 and 24. We are relying on our youth and many energy drinks-preferably Sobe: Adrenalin Rush- to help us through the long road hours. Did you stop and sleep in the vehicles or are you talking about stopping and getting a room for the night? I'm curious how easy it will be to find rooms that will allow animals and not charge an arm and a leg!

I think many Motel6 allow pets in certain rooms....and they are usually cheap (er).
No Ritz Carlton...
but you just need sleep, shower and place to pee after all those Sobe Drinks!!
Plus they are directly off the highway for a quick getaway!!

Drive safe

Personally, I'm a big fan of the old roadside motel courts. The kind with with the pink metal lawn chairs on the walkway, usually on the outskirts of town. Generally cheap, don't ask about pets, you pay your 40 or 50 bucks cash and you're in. Known throughout the land as Patel Motels (now). I hate Motel 6.

The Patel Motels always smell of curry and old carpeting and have big bathtubs. Bring your own soap. Never paid more than $50 for one anywhere in America, and usually less. They're never booked.

They smell of curry and you prefer them?

I just hope that smell IS curry, because I cant imagine what else would be "like" curry
Yes Motel 6 is the bottom of the rung, however usually pet friendly.

I do love those old kitchy motels on the roadside, especially the themed ones like a polynesian theme in the desert.
Plus they are usually attached to real "diners" like from Alice.....double the flavor and fun!

Happy Trails...to you...until we meet again....!

Here you go. I usually try and figure where I will be stoppong for the night and look at the hotels there. It's usually best to call ahead and reserve.

petswelcome.com

They even have a search by route option.

Forget practice, get kitty a pill from the vet to relax him! We did that for both the dog and cat and it was the best decision ever.

I had one funny experience driving a long distance with a cat. We drove from western Kentucky to central Missouri with a cat in his carrier in the back of a Jeep Wagoneer. Even with some litter in it that cat made a "deposit" That made us roll the windows down as fast as we could! Son-in-law settled that matter. The pet carrier went to the top of the Jeep, strapped on tight, and wrapped in duct tape, which my son-in-law calls 90 MPH tape. Air holes were left but wrapped enough so he wouldn't blow away inside! lol I could almost swear I saw the cat kiss the ground when we let him out!

Default use yahoo Maps for accurate driving time + route miles

Yahoo maps will pinpoint your exact miles + driving time, as well as can be done without an accurate crystal ball.they do add in a bit of time for stops. If you keep at it it will be accurate. you can just do zip-code to zip code should be good.

I've made that trip 3 times. It can be done in 48 hours straight through if all you do is stop for gas and potty break. This does not allow any time to sleep. I do NOT recommend it. I can remember the time that I did it, when I got to my destination I was walking like I was drunk and slept for about 12 hours.

Last time I did it, I did it in 4 days and 3 nights. Drove for about 10-12 hours per day and took my time at gas and rest room breaks.

Depending on the route that you take, you will see some incredible parts of the US.

I took Route 40 through New Mexico and Arizona and then hooked up with I5 in California and took it straight up.

Good luck on your drive!

Hope they have done some fine tuning to yahoo maps. About 2 years ago we drove from western Kentucky to eastern Pa. My wife thought yahoo maps was the greatest thing ever! Tried to tell her you had to watch out for online maps like that! When we got to Lexington, Ky., instead of taking the Circle Road, which is the bypass around the city, yahoo maps had us drive right through the middle of the Univ. of Kentucky campus...during a home football game! As soon as we made it through campus, her son, who was following with his family, cell phoned my wife and asked her to do him a favor. On the next corner we saw with a trash can, stop and put the printed yahoo maps directions in it! lol
