We recently moved to another state a few months ago and left our parents behind. We have 2 young children. My parents are nuts about our kids and are devasted that they can't see the kids daily/every week. Though they claim they will never move to the state we are in because they love living in Southern California. We are a very close knit traditional family. I was wondering if many parents do follow the kids and grandkids....eventually? Please share your experience.

Thank you

Yes, my parents have followed us!

When we moved to SC, my mom was there and I told her WE needed her in SC. She was going through an awful divorce and we had two small children at the time. In the big picture, she needed us as much as we needed her there.

We just moved back to Ohio and she came moved back up too. ( Ohio is our home state).

My dh family might just end up moving here in the future.

Now, just because my parents moved where we were SURE didn't mean they LIVED with us! ( That would be a whole other issue!)

My wife and I keep hoping my parents will follow us. This is where they were raised and where they started their family, and it is where we are now making our home and plan on staying for good. Wish they would come back as well. Dad is all set to pack up, sell the house and get back here, but Mom after 20+ years there isn't quite ready to go.

When we moved from CA to TX my parents bought 5 acres in TX and planned to build a house in TX. I moved from TX 9 months later because I hated it and now they want to sell their property. They still want to get out of CA, but I'm staying put. I'm a Cali-girl to the core!

*shrug* My parents were/are abusive. I'm a big girl, I'm over it, and as you can see I am quite capable of laughing about it now.

I wish my whole family would move here. I like it so much better than Mi and I think most of them would too. Especially if they were all there. MI really doesn't hold much anymore and it is sad hearing all the devastating stories of despair and loss.

But, my mom will NOT fly and I don't know if she will make the trek across the country. I mean, if she absolutely had to she would. It would take lots of valium, though.

If your parents do move there, that sure would be nice for you. Hopefully, they would feel the same.

My dear friend in Ohio left her home in New Jersy to follow her children. She gave up everything to be with them and the kids ended up all moving on with their lives and moving out of state. She said that she preferred NJ and wish that she had never left.

Yes, but mine moved in with us. When my wife and I first discussed moving to another state with my parents we told them we wanted them to come with us and live with us (they are both in their mid to late 70's). We made sure we bought a house large enough to give everyone their own space. It is very important to me that my daughter has a close relationship with her grandparents!
