Considering a move to a new city. The cliffnotes version of the reason is that I'm kind of sick of being in the same area and I'm young (26) and figure what better time than now?

Once I figure out where it is that I want to go, I'm obviously going to look for jobs. And I'm pretty confident that I'll be able to land something prior to moving, BUT, if not, I'm curious to know what people think about this... if you're moving to a new city, how much money should you have to take with you?

If you already have a guaranteed job in your new location, 3 months' living expenses. If you do not yet have a job in the new location, 6 months' or more living expenses.

Don't forget that we're in an economic collapse which will continue to grow and which will last into at least 2010. Companies are having huge problems getting loans to provide cash flow, which pays salaries; if they can't get the money, they go bankrupt. Over one million people have lost their jobs this year, with another 500,000 expected to lose their jobs by the end of this year, so all of them are job-hunting. The more companies eliminate jobs, the harder it will get to find a job.

SO --- you need to prepare yourself to be out of work for a long time in your new location, and hope that doesn't happen but be able to survive it if it does. I wish you happiness in your new adventure!
