Default Receiving mail at a temporary location

Hi --

I am working at a seasonal job this summer, and living in the "staff housing" there.

From everything that people tell me, the company does a very poor job of delivering mail to staff. Basically everyone living there just gets to use the main company address, and then whenever they get around to it, they sort it out and stack it so we can pick it up. I hear the average delay is one or two weeks.

This isn't really good enough... and.... I don't want to pay for a 6-month committment at the UPS store or the Post Office for a P.O. Box. Its not really worth that kind of money for the amount of mail I receive.

I was thinking about placing a classified ad in the newspaper to see if a family or business or someone in town would be willing to let me receive mail at their place. I would pay them something reasonable, but, hopefully not as much as it would cost for a P.O. Box. Ideally I'd like to be able to affix my own mailbox on their building so I could receive mail privately.

Is this legal to do? Would I be able to put my own mailbox on someone's building and begin to receive mail there (even though I live don't live there?) Or would the family who's house it is have to collect and stack my mail and let me pick it up at a convenient time?

Thanks!

You can have everything sent to "General Delivery" and then pick it up at the designated post office in town.
