Use Dependable Auto Shippers. They have been in business for years and are very reputable.
|
I can not understand why you would say such a thing when they are anything but reliable.
True, Dependable Auto Shippers has been and still is one of the largest auto transport companies in the United States. However, they have failed miserably in representing the auto transport industry. The entire industry has a black eye because of the methods they employ.
They claim to have locations in over 36 states but in reality they have one location, Mesquite, TX. The other facilities they refer to are, in actuality, local tow companies, usually about an hours drive from the city they service. These tow companies could care less about your car!! However, that's only part of the problem.
The real issues start after they pick up your vehicle. Sure, they can get it back to your "local" tow yard rather quickly. But then your car will sit for days and weeks. Some of the issues people report are supposed no-fee cancellation policies, extreme delays in delivery, damage claims going unresolved, theft, and attempts by their sales people to "expedite" things once they've already been delayed, of course for an additional fee.
My issue with this company is they are so big they are the face of the entire industry. They are also so crooked they ruin it for the companies that are honest and hard-working.
Please stop telling people they are reputable. They are not. They use an antiquated system to transport cars (terminal to terminal instead of door to door), offer insurance at a premium when, by law, all moves are insured for free.

Well, I didn't know all of that. My own personal experience with them was good. My car arrived before I did, in less time than they had estimated. Maybe I just got lucky. I do know they are not just a "broker" middle-man type operation, like many are that advertise on the web. Those are the ones you really want to stay away from.

That's not true, either. They broker the majority of their loads.

Quality brokers provide an invaluable service to the transport industry. They fill trucks that are half full, allowing the carriers to be (more) profitable. They also guide customers through a difficult process.
Hilton Auto Transport, AutoZipper, Specialty Mobile Systems, and 1st Call Auto Haul are just a few of the quality brokers, with the last 2 actually owning some of their own trucks.
I don't mean to rail against your post, but it gets under my skin a bit when people say they have had a good experience with DAS. That, to me, is like telling people I won the lottery so you should definitely go and wager $1000s. The likelihood of a repeat positive experience is slim at best.

Stayrightpassleft is completely wrong about DAS. They do have all the locations mentioned, and they are definately NOT brokers. Have used them many times, and there is no one better. Where do you get such bad information...?
Don't give advice if you don't know what you're talking about...

Don 2390,
I would say your advice is completely wrong. They do broker the majority of their loads and I can prove it. See, I happen to be involved in the auto transport industry. You can be both a broker and/or a carrier, and in my opinion there should be no negative connotation associated with either. However, for them to claim they are not a broker, and for you to blindly believe them is just...wrong. Additionally, because they use these facilities as their terminals does not mean they own said facility. They are local towing companies.
I'm not sure if this will work, but I am going to try and post an attachment of a load board where DAS is hoping actual carriers will pick up your car. If done right, it will also show why no quality carrier will pick up said car, because they don't pay very well and have also been known to not pay at all.
Sorry Don. Not trying to get into a contest with you here. However, I am right on this subject.

Sorry Donn2390, but Stayrightpassleft is 100% right about DAS. Not only is the company a licensed household goods property carrier http://bit.ly/zITGv , but they’re also a licensed property broker http://bit.ly/9NuE2 and freight forwarder http://bit.ly/15rGui. The company operates about 170 units under its carrier authority http://bit.ly/179scJ , but brokers about 40% of their total volume to affiliated carriers each year. Most of their terminal locations are collector sites operated by independent companies.

I used Auto Transport Direct last year to deliver my Trans Am that I bought on ebay. I can say for a fact that they contract out some of their loads. My car was delivered by some small freight company from the town the car originated in, not ATD . I was expecting to see a big truck come rolling up with my car, instead it was a Dodge dually with a trailer hooked to it.
