jerseygal4u is on a distinguished road
Default realistically how much should i save for a move from jersey to texas

just wondering about how much do u think it will cost to move from jersey to austin, texas{ plus 2 weeks living expenses? i will use either budget or penske because my brother will drive me. we are a family of 5. i would start working almost immediately because my companies transfer down there{I am a nurse} Do you guys think 12,000- 13000 is enough? why or why not? my monthly expenses are 3300 in jersey, probably going to be 2400 in texas and i have no family or friends there. i will be renting for a year. also anybody else do a cross country move from jersey to texas? how was it? i really want to do this but just wondering if u guys think that could be enough to move off of. i also would be going down 2 weeks before i move to look for a rental, no hotels here.

You can get the cost of a truck rental directly from their websites. I prefer Penske myself and the cost vary depending on what kind of a deal you get. You can figure 10miles/gal for most trucks although you may actually do better. Add up your daily rate with the fuel cost and insurance and you have it.
For a long distance move, NJ to TX, I would definitely look into ABF. I have found that ABF is much cheaper over longer distance. With ABF you can rent trailer space or use their relo cubes.

Approx 4 years ago I moved from Dallas to Long Island, NY. I had estimates from U-Haul, Budget for a do it yourself move and than I went to Long distance movers from Globe,Mayflower, and Allied.

After tallying up my labor vs theirs and estimates for fuel, lodging, and meals I chose Allied Movers.

Surprisingly the do it yourselfers were really close in price to the professionals. The thing is that when the pros do it they are also moving 3 or 4 other families on the same semi-truck. They were quick, efficient, and insured. They arrived on time and I had no problems with them.If you do it yourself your on your own.

All in all it costs around 4 grand. It was a lot of money but I have a feeling your quality of life in Texas will be better. Austin is a fantastic place to live. The nightlife and restaurants are modern and your right next door to the University of Texas "Hook Em' Horns!"
