With moving to Seattle, but no definite address yet, my wife and I are looking to rent a mail box online, to have our mail forwarded till we get a permanent address. Now, the problem is I can't find anything on renting a mailbox online. I checked both UPSStore.com, USPS.com, and just general Google searching. Looking for any help or info, so we can have our mail on the other side, rather than just sitting somewhere.

Thank you .

go to usps and they will arrange for you to rent a mailbox online and when you get there you should have a p.o box addy . or talk to someone at the post office in the city you are going to and they should be able to help you .

I've found the Post Office to be very INflexible about opening a P.O. box long distance, although it doesn't hurt to go into your local branch and ask. You can, of course, have things sent to "General Delivery" and pick them up when you arrive, but that's not terribly convenient.

Here are the result of a quick search I did in the online Yellow Pages -- perhaps a privately owned place would be willing to rent you a box.

The other thing that you can do is call a UPS Store in the destination city. They will rent you a mailbox long distance. They do the paperwork by fax. They are more expensive than the regular post office but they will work with you long distance. They will also accept packages there if need be.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the all the info guys, its why I love this place. I was reading the USPS site and it seemed REALLY inflexible about long distance renting. I didn't want to have stuff get sent back. I will look into the UPS store, and call one local, and see if they can help me out.

Thanks again.

You can rent a box, but the USPS won't activate it until you show up in person to prove your identity. At least that was my experience.

Yeah, we decided to have our mail forwarded to our parents, and have them ship it to us when we get our place. It'll probably be like this, as its a new building, and I hear the mail is a little screwy

We tried when we moved. We went to the local post office and they wanted our IDs and proof of a local address. But I wanted to rent a PO box b/c I didn't have a local address yet.

Very true, worked there 15 yrs. U cannot rent a p.o. box with the USPS without being there to prove yr identity. I say forward yr mail to General Delivery and pick it up until you get a p.o.box.
