The next time a friend asks you to help move I suggest handing then a $100 bill and telling them to hire somebody else. I just helped move a friend from a 3rd floor apartment to a 2nd floor apartment. I am very sore and stiff from the effort. I am too old for this crap.

I know what you mean.

I used to move a lot, and people always offered to help. but started hiring a couple of guys instead, .. so I'd still have family and friends.

I helped a number of folks in my 20s. Once I hit 35, I told my friends that they should have decent enough jobs to afford a mover. I will help move some boxes, but if its up or down flights of stairs its up to them...dont even think of calling me if there is an entertainment center, waterbed, or something large to move.

It's been awhile, but helped move our youngest into his first apt a few years ago, up three floors of windy, skinny stairs .. in the middle of summer.

.. getting the couch stuck in the stairways .. every inch, all the way up to the third floor in 100' heat .. lots of fun!
Brought back lots of memories.

and yes, we realized also, getting too old for this crap.

Water beds are easier to move if you drain them first.

texdav that reminded me of another 'rule' i had when helping someone move. I said "I would only set the furniture down once", so they better have a plan on where it should go.

Moving friends is akin to driving them to the airport.

If you have a job, you get a moving company or a taxi.

Because nobody really wants to do it, unless your 20, or it's family.
