Default School Year and Closing delays

We are moving from one Chicago suburb to another about a half hour away. We hadn't planned on doing it this way, but an offer on a short sale got accepted with a closing date about a week before the school year begins. So the school has been super accomodating and got us registered and everything.

Its a short sale though, and now the other side's lawyer is wanting to delay our closing date by about 2 weeks, which I am afraid will screw up school for the kiddos. I can't drive them up there and get to work at a normal time, let alone pick them up on time.

The worst part is, I can't get a hold of anyone who knows what is going on - the banks and realtors all still have our original closing date on file! They don't see any loose ends that would delay theings. My lawyer is out of town! I'm going nuts waiting. Just needed to vent.
