Hello, hope you all can help!
Husband and I are moving to D.C. area this summer (military move), and are looking around the Alexandria area to live. Neither of us has ever been to D.C. (AND, we currently live overseas), so this is getting very complicated!
We want to stay as far east as possible (by Old Town) due to his commute to Andrews AFB. I'll be commuting to the Ballston area near Arlington, so Alexandria is 'half-way' and we're looking for apartments within the "triangle" of highways around Alexandria (395 and 495). We want to live in a VERY safe area (meaning, my young female self can walk a dog at night), be near shopping/things to do, and hopefully be near a metro station (blue line)... but if we live further west, then that's ok (I can just drive to Arlington instead).
What are your opinions on the Taylor Run area? Cameron Station seems nice, but it may a little far west for us I think. Seminary Hill? Any place else? (I have no idea on the neighborhood names or anything... I'm just going off what Google Maps has listed!)
Any advice on specific apartment complexes, any certain areas to stay away from or take a look at, etc. would be SO helpful.
We're trying to keep it below $1900 for a 2-bedroom, and have no kids. We'd like to get a dog, but where we live will dictate that... we can stay pet-free for a few years if needed.
Thank you!
