South Carolina and Tennessee? Oh no, you must be mistaken. Here in the south, it's just like "Mayberry", didn't you know?.

Whoever decided to rep me and tell me NJ is the ugliest state in the nation, why couldn't you quote me here and explain why I needed to here that. I didn't even insult New Mexico.
New Mexico is truly a beautiful state.. It just so happens to be Mexico's neighbor and has a high rate of high intensity drug trafficking areas. It's not my fault the state landed at #2 on that list.
All of it's beauty doesn't hide the fact that the state is one of the least educated states while also being among the poorest states which, in a way, contribute to the high crime rates.
I'd hate to get more in depth with New Mexico's reasoning as to why it's on that list. I have a close friend who's from New Mexico, so I've heard a fair share of New Mexico's issues.

I hate to point out the worst of things, but if it's an elaboration you want, there you go.

There is something wrong with the list. Detroit should have landed Michigan a slot on this list of shame.

I think the list is skewed because states report crimes in different ways - i.e. multiple listings for the same offense vs one. I was going to say how safe it feels in TN, but maybe we need our bad reputation to keep from getting crowded.

Outside of Detroit, most of Michigan is safe and pristine. You ever hear of Grand Rapids? Royal Oak? Marquette?

I live in the safe part of the state, however Detroit is a huge percentage of our population, and its always dragging our whole state down. Detroit is like an anchor wrapped around Michigans neck.

2008 population estimates put Detroit at 912,062, and Michigan at 10,045,697. That means Detroit accounts for approximatly 9% of Michigan's population.
Compare that to some other states with only one major city:
Indiana - Indianapolis would account for 798,382 of 6,423,113 residents, or roughly 12% of Indiana's population.
Illinois - Chicago accounts for 2,853,114 of 12,910,409 residents, or roughly 22% of Illinois's population.
Oklahoma City is roughly 15% of Oklahoma's population
Las Vegas is roughly 21% of Nevada's population
Phoenix is roughly 23% of Arizona's population
Seems Detroit is not quite the huge percentage you think it is.

And what about Flint?
This list is a joke if it places Delaware on there (presumably) for Wilmington and Tennessee (what in the world...)? - I guess because of parts of Memphis, but yet Michigan escapes unscathed?
