There are still Exxon brand stations around, but all the Mobil stations became LUKOIL stations. I haven't filled up in a few weeks, but I did observe a sign at Exxon advertizing $2.87 regular.

Best things about filling up in Jersey: Cheaper than surrounding states (MUCH cheaper than NY) and full service.

I live in CT and we have a high gas tax. We are a small state, so fill up in Jersey (cheap!) and bypass buying gas in CT! Mass. generally has cheaper gas than CT so just make it to the border to fill up again if necessary. In this area you will find Shell, Exxon/Mobil, Valero, Sunoco, Citgo, and a bunch of more independent type stations.

You won't see Chevron's north of Maryland.
Upper East coast...Exxon, Mobil, Shell, BP, Gulf....don't know much about the off brands as I do not use them

Good call on prices! I traveled through CT to MA and then north to ME, and I do think CT was the most expensive (5+ weeks ago).

Default Wow, thanks!

You guys are awesome, this is exactly what I needed...

I typically use Shell, Texaco & Chevron, and it sounds like I may be able to find one or the other in most places

Thank you for the heads up on prices, too. That helps me plan a bit better. A $.30-.50 cent a gallon savings vs. what we pay here is going to help the budget!

I dont think we'll be near NJ, unfortunately to take advantage of the lower prices and the FULL service.

Keep adding comments if you think of any other places, prices that would be helpful. Our path: Charlotte NC, up through VA, to Washington DC, to south part of MD, to PA, NY, VT, and finally into MA, ending our trip in Boston.

Thanks again, you guys are awesome!

In Atlanta one gas station was asking to enter a 6-digit ZIP code for my card payment. I just gave up and went to fill up elsewhere. Some gas stations just don't care to keep their customers.

I thought Sunocos were a TN,NC, and VA company because they have them here in NE TN. If you ever go to Atlanta hit up Quick Trip because the coffee is good and I don't even prefer coffee. Atlanta also have your Shells, BPs, Citgos, Chevrons, Exxon, Phillips 66. I know that some Texacos merged with BP but I'm not sure if they still have the regular Texacos around Atlanta.

what would the 6th digit have been? That's bizzare. A mistake?

That's why you should press "credit" when using your debit card at the station. It won't ask you for a code, and it does the same thing: deduct funds from your checking account.
