I just noticed, well I think I just noticed, that Virginia Beach-Norfolk is "whiter" in its core city than in the suburbs. That looks to be unusual.

Well, that's because of VA Beach, which has the highest White percentage probably by far in that area. People forget that it used to be a county at one time.

In the U.S I don't think any city exists that has both a population of over 100,000 and a population that is over 90% Non Hispanic White. But there are plenty of cities with a population of over 100,000 that are over 70% Non Hispanic White or even over 80%.

No idea Cleveland Metro was 82% white and one of the whitest metros in the Nation...

Rockin the suburbs!
These numbers can be a bit misleading because of differences in levels of integration between metro areas. The NYC metro area is shown to be 51% non-Hispanic white and the SF-Oakland area is shown to be 46% non-Hispanic white. However, outside of Marin county, it's MUCH harder to find towns/cities/neighborhoods that are over 90% white in the SF-Oakland area than it is in the NYC metro area. There are towns/suburbs/villages all over the NYC metro area that are 90% white because of the comparatively higher level of residential segregation when compared to the SF-Oakland area. The overall percentages don't really tell you how easy it is to find overwhelmingly non-Hispanic white neighborhoods.

Billings Montana is very close at 86.9%. Boise is 85.2%, Spokane is 84%, Eugene is 82% and Manchester NH is 82%. Check here: Welcome to Spatial Structures in the Social Sciences (S4)

82% is closer to 79% than it is to 90%.

City-Data lists Springfield, Missouri at 89.1%. That's the closest I've found thus far or at least the closest I can recall.
