I love to relax and look at my atlas. Find new places on the maps and study them. Does anyone else like to do this?

I look at google earth all the time for fun and to study new places. I've been doing it ever since google launched its satalite maps in the 2005.

Its weird, 2005 seems so recent but it feels like its been out for much longer. Same with youtube.. 2005, can't believe its that new, yet its such a big part of our society now.

I've done it my entire life. In second grade, when all the kids were drawing pictures of butterflies and horses, I was drawing freehand maps of my hometown and the Chesapeake Bay!

Anytime I'm driving to a place that I'm not familar with, I go to Google Maps and study it through the streetview to see where the turning lanes are, what landmarks to watch for, etc.

And yes, I do look at them for fun also. I epescially like Google Earth and it's history feature, though I wish it would go back futher than the early 90's for most locations that I look at.

I love the history feature, and seeing how things have changed.

Every time I go somewhere new, when I get home I go on google earth and find the area and study it, and if I know ahead of time that I'm going somwhere new I will study the area before I go so I know where I'm going.

My friends are always amazed at how easy I can find places on a satalite map usuing no labes or boarders what so ever. I can turn the street names, populated places labes and boarders off and zoom right into a number of different places without a problem.

I also love how every medium/big sized city has 3D buildings now so I can really get a feel of what the city looks like. Another cool new feature I have seen on streetview in my area is the option to wear 3D glasses and look at street view in 3D.

I'm glad I was born the time I was born, google maps came out when I was 13, I never had to use an atlas.
