A sad reality.

Just read an article on liine that highlights what we all know already... the decline of America's middle class.

Very sad.

I bet 95% of Americans would call themselves "middle class".

People on the upper and lower edges of middle would call themselves middle class because nobody wants to be poor and nobody wants to announce they are "upper class". Just a thought. Not based on any sort of polling or anything

PS- how bout a link to the article?

That's so sad! are these people shrinking because of environmental problems in the suburbs? How many inches btw, 3 or 4? Because if people are shrinking THAT much it must be bad!

I think the OP meant weight, not height. In that case, it's a good thing!

IMO if that continues to happen this country may go to HE double toothpick in a handbasket cause the middle class is the backbone of America. Without that backbone things could collapse very fast and we could be headed into another great depression . Unlike the one in the thirties it may be very difficult if not impossible to restore this country. I hope that is just a fear that will never hold true and not a reality.

The middle class shrank a bit when the recession hit, but it's not shrinking.

We can now breath easy then! And so can the middle class with all that weight causing them to no longer have that hard time breathing!

People have been saying this for about the last 50 years so I am cynical when people say it now. It also tends to be rooted in a political agenda by all sides using such fears for political gain.
