What do you think of these numbers ?
The Mexican American population is impressive, Irish Americans and German Americans will be surpassed soon !
Other latino ethnicities are represented well, but a more diversified latino pop would be a good thing I think....The US should welcome more immigrants from Guatemala, Honduras, Salvador, Nicaragua, Peru, Venezuela,Ecuador and Colombia.
I get the feeling it is going to be more diverse with a shrinking percentage of Hispanics being Mexicans. My guess is that the pressures that cause people from Mexico to leave are gradually lessening due to birthrate decline and increases in manufacturing jobs (especially the Northern Mexican States). I think the irony is that at some point in the future the tables will be turned and Mexico will have to deal with a growing illegal immigration problem from their Southern Border.

As of 2008 in the following southern metros, Mexicans made up...

San Antonio 48.2% -> 53.2%
Houston 26.6% -> 34%
Austin 23.7% -> 30.2%
Dallas 23.6% -> 27.5%
Atlanta 5.9% -> 9.6%
Raleigh 5.7% -> 9.1%
Charlotte 4.5% -> 8.9%
Nashville 3.6% -> 5.5%
Tampa 3.1% -> 14.6%
Memphis 2.8% -> 3.9%
Orlando 2.7% -> 23%
Miami 2.6% -> 39.6%
Birmingham 2.5% -> 3.3%
New Orleans 1.4% -> 6.3%
Jacksonville 1.3% -> 5.9%
American FactFinder

The bold % is the total % of Hispanics in that metro.
Outside of Texas it appears that Mexicans prefer the piedmont, but the numbers are nowhere near those in Texas.
Here is the Q...are these known peeps ie. citizens? Does it include "undocumented woikas" and those that make up one third of our prison population?

New Orleans' Hispanic population is mainly Honduran, Cuban, Nicaraguan, Salvadorian, and Guatemalan. Next would be Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, and very small Isleno population. Mexicans didn't start showing up here until 2006 after Katrina. As a result there is a lot of tension between both them and all of the other Hispanics as well as Blacks and Whites. It's weird because Whites, Blacks, and the majority of Hispanics practically get along; yet everyone more or less despises the Mexicans.
