I've heard that as well. Houston probably reminds many of Lagos, with some lighter skinned fellows.

In Charlotte there is a significant Ethiopian, Nigerian, Liberian, and Ghanian population. Other groups are here but these are the largest. And Ethiopian women are indeed beautiful.

Growth = + 125% (+ 421 106)

Numbers for some countries:
Nigeria 1991-1999 : 59 401
Nigeria 2001-2009 : 97 837
Growth : + 38 436 (+ 65%)

Ethiopia 1991-1999 : 45 205
Ethiopia 2001-2009 : 95 473
Growth : + 50 268 (+ 111%)

Egypt 1991-1999 : 41 236
Egypt 2001-2009 : 64 099
Growth : + 22 863 (+ 55%)

Somalia 1991-1999 : 17 756
Somalia 2001-2009 : 59 592
Growth : + 41 836 (+ 236%)

Kenya 1991-1999 : 11 792
Kenya 2001-2009 : 52 279
Growth : + 40 487 (+ 343%)

Pretty impressive
And I guess they will be more to immigrate in the US during this decade, and they have many babies so we can expect a boom of Nigerian-Americans, Ethiopian-Americans, Somalian-Americans...etc...
What do you think about it ?

The white population is getting more diverse as well. There is a significant amount of growth in Eastern European and Germanic groups. But the focus of this thread is African groups, and Charlotte is seeing more Africans.

This immigration boom started during the Bush administration, he cared about Africa.I guess this african growth will continue under Obama
It's a good thing for the diversity in the US.
Now the african immigration must become more diverse itself : more immigrants from Congo/Chad/Niger/Zimbabwe/Senegal/Eritrea would be great

I have not met an African immigrant that I have not liked.

They respect education and hard work. They respect their elderly.

As long as they come here legally, and we do extensive background checks, I do not see a problem.

Welcome!
