Hello. I live in VA Beach and am curious what fits the following criteria:

A place with significantly lower humidity (up to 60%)

Low incidents of house pests (silverfish, mice, roaches, frogs...anything not human)

A place that experiences the different seasons, Fall is a must. I don't want summers exceeding 90 or winters where it is really cold with a lot of snow.

It doesn't have to be extreme, but a lot of sunny, clear days would be great! Deserts and open plains are not our thing.

A good place for kids, good recreation (nearby boating, bike paths, trails), moderate/medium sized population

A place where people are friendly. I don't need to be waved to or for people to start conversations everywhere, but good manners and an overall respectful, educated community is very important.

From my research so far, it seems like I need to go west for better weather. I appreciate any suggestions about the west, but if you know of any that fit this criteria in the east, I'd be very interested to hear those as well. Thanks so much!

I'd recommend the Boulder, Colorado area. It's pretty much heaven.

The Central Coast of California seems to fit what you're looking for...San Luis Obispo, Morro Bay, Arroyo Grande etc. During my almost 8 years living in that area I never say one cockroach, was never bitten by a mosquito nor did I see any, humidity was low, no temperature extremes. Plenty to do outdoors...hiking, biking, camping, fishing etc.

During the winter you get some rain, but nothing extreme in terms of temps. You won't see much foliage during the fall, but you will see some beautiful sunsets during the crisper months of October and November.

You really narrow it down weather/landscape wise, which eliminates a lot of areas (like most everywhere).

I think Southern Oregon's I-5 corridor fits best, from Eugene southward. There are a few hot days, but it's a dry heat. Very pretty, there are mountains nearby, it's hilly and green. Expect some rain (less rain and a bit hotter the further south you go). Very little snow. Awesome place.

I discounted the entire state of Colorado because of
-snow
-plains
-desert
-or some or all of the above.

Boulder gets 84 inches of snow/year. Yes, it melts pretty fast, but it is very much cold/wintry when it snows.
