Are there any cities in the US without gangs and all the blight, drugs and violence that goes with them? It seems the more research I do, the more I learn about the penetration of gangs into most cities (large and small) in the US. Does anyone live in a city or town (greater than 50,000) without gang problems?
Considering I know of towns nearby with less than 10,000 people, but that have gangs of a kind, I'm going to guess "no." I think almost anytime you have a significant amount of people under 20 from poor home lives you'll have gangs of some kind.
Still it could depend on what you mean by gangs. If you don't count any old group of people who commit crimes as a group as a "gang", instead require a gang to be violent and drug-oriented, than possibly there are cities that would fit. I'm thinking cities with few under-18 and low crime could work best. So here's some possibilities, based on the "few kids, low crime", using the American Community Survey and/or City-Data.
Amherst, New York
Barnstable, Massachusetts
Prescott, Arizona
Well maybe, not that any of those are huge cities.
