Where is the best place in the US to live for:
1. Outdoor activities as well as culture
2. Dog friendly
3. Gluten free alternatives
4. Friendly people where a single straight person in 40's can feel part of an entire community; where neighbors talk with one another
5. Not too humid
6. Medium size, with water access if possible
7. Healthy living

If you ditch "water access", Denver fits all of the criteria.

Wow....I asked a very similiar question of the West and SW states. CA was full of sarcasm, CO and OR were straightforward and overall helpful and WA was a bit like CA responders. TX was ok. So that might help in determining friendly people. So far, I've heard tons of positive things about CO and CA that meets your criteria. CO snow unfortunately doesn't work for me. The eccentricity of CA might be a turn off as well.

I may feel land-locked in CO...no large body of water and I do not mind some snow but they do receive a great deal....CA economy not very good and although probably a good choice for me, the lack of water for drinking in southern CA is concerning.
