We certainly wouldn't call ourselves yankees haha.

The only people I've ever heard use the term "yankee" to describe someone from the Northeast are Southerners...and if said it in an unfriendly way, it sounds like they're dropping an N-bomb on you. So much hate! haha

Yankee means you are not a southerner. It's either or. I don't find it offensive since I'm not a southerner.

You Bostonians probably equal "Yankee" with the baseball team. Too much rivalry with that to even DARE call you a "Yankee".

I didn't think of that lol. Maybe Patriot would be better, think of the revolutionary guys with the hats, or maybe Pilgrims or Colonists/Colonials lol. I actually like Colonial. I've been called Yankee alot, and lots of people call us that, I usually take offense to it, but it's still a name for people up here lol.

In all honesty, and i saw this post after it was shut down, it would be a pretty diverse, economically viable, and beautiful state. Kind of how I view the region as a whole.

CT seem the outlier though, especially the SW portion

Alsways wondered where CT fit better but maybe a topic for another thread

BTW - nice work missRoxyheart
People talk alot about how NY like "owns" SW CT, but it's still distinctly CT too. It's still definitely New England, just draws some influence from outside the boundary. I don't think people would argue Tijuana belongs in CA despite being connected with San Diego.

Thanks btw, I have fun with numbers and hypotheticals lol.

So what do you guys think about the state of New England?
It would make sense to me but there are problems and it would be very complicated to bring about.

First, the New England states currently have 12 Senate seat. If they united in one state, New England (and the entire Northeast) would loose 10 seats in the US Senate and maybe some in the US House.

Second, someone mentioned Boston as the actual Capital. I totally agree. But wouldn't this be a economic disaster to Hartford, Providence and the smaller capitals?

Difference though, from NY to Connecticut, there's no border security...

There aren't people who stand there with guns checking passport while there are barbed wire fences... LOL

Regarding the term Yankee. I know some Southeners think it is the ultimate insult but to people living in the North, its bothers us no worse then when the British called us Yankees 200 years ago.

It's a two way street though, Northerners think people from places like Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina are "hicks".

It goes both ways honestly, lol. People think of Texas as "Cowboys" I have yet to see that in Texas!

Stereotypes are just meant to be taken with a grain of salt anyways, in our day and age, most aren't true to much of a large extent.
